Chromas is a program that was developed with the scope of offering researchers a comprehensive tool for viewing and editing chromatograms from Sanger sequences.
The installation process doesn't require advanced computer skills and the entire operation only lasts a few minutes.

The GUI isn't impressive but is extremely easy to navigate through the main page. As a general impression, the interface looks like one from the early 2000s, with badly crafted icons, blurry text, and basic customization options.

The program does offer more when it comes to its features. It can display translated sequence in three frames along the sequence and can reverse complement sequence and chromatogram.

It supports the export of sequences in formats such as FASTA, FASTQ, EMBL, GenBank or GCG. More, the sequences that have a low-quality are automatically removed.

Other useful features are batch processing, various options of exporting and copying sequences and chromatogram data, and the possibility of saving files in .scf or .ab1 formats.

To summarize, the software developed by Technelysium Pty. Ltd is able to offer more than it shows at first glance. Despite not offering the possibility of viewing raw data, the rest of the features are well-implemented and very responsive to user commands.
